Uma Breakdown & Belladonna Paloma

Belladonna Paloma

“I’m a disabled trans artist, poet, tattooist and computer-game designer living in Shetland, UK. I make work inhabited by toilet gods, crossroads, boglands, and necromancy, percolating British folklore primarily through painting and poetry. I make performance work exploring boglands, grief, trans ancestry and criptime with Rabindranath X Bhose and Oren Shoesmith. I make devotional soundwork with Daniella Valz Gen. And I make computer games and fanfic with Uma Breakdown exploring the occult and sci-fi provenance of transfemininity. Recent work has been shown and performed at Whitechapel, Glasgow International and IMT.”

Uma Breakdown

“I’m Uma, a disabled artist, writer, and award winning game designer interested in animals, horror, and psychic/cybernetic structures which support/inhibit solidarity. Everything I make is about some combination of love, grief, hallucination, and an excess of joy.

My practice is orientated around images and text, manifesting as animation, drawing, games, and publishing. Additionally, with my collaborator Belladonna Paloma I make video games about the divine and occult providence of transfemme existence.

Recent exhibitions include: “The Joy of Destruction” for Backlit (Nottingham, 2023),  \\\”Hinterlands\\\” at Baltic (Gateshead 2022), and my first solo exhibition/game series “Earth A.D.” co-commissioned by and touring across Wysing Arts Centre (Cambridge, 2022), FACT (Liverpool, 2023), and Quad (Derby, 2024).

Recent publications include: “Two Dolls & An Egg” (with Belladonna Paloma) for Almanac Journal of Trans Poetics (Helsinki, 2024), “The Graveyard of Extension”

in Deleuzine Vol. 2 (London, 2023), and “Trans Death Magic” for SlugTown (Newcastle, 2023).

I work extensively in inclusive art education and also provide a pay-what-you-can mentoring scheme for working class artists. I am a proud trustee for Broken Grey Wires, the Liverpool based art organisation concerned with the depiction of mental health illness.”
